Part startup challenge, part space camp, Forge IDEA Challenge gives students the chance to explore and take advantage of business opportunities on a fictional lunar colony. Imagine that for the last 5 years the first moon base was developed by gamers on Earth remotely controlling robots to collect resources, design, and build a subsurface human habitat. Now the top 50 players have been selected to live in their celestial home and resolve social and economic challenges. The IDEA challenge will empower students by exposing them to the necessary skills to start their own entrepreneurial venture.
Forge IDEA Challenge’s goal is to allow the space explorers to learn what it takes to fill one of the IDEA roles and develop the skills to do so. The challenge is designed to give students the confidence and abilities to consider starting their own ventures.
Students will be broken into groups of five consisting of members from different schools to encourage new networking skills and collaboration. Each group will develop a business idea based on the lean canvas. In between working on their product or service students will attend breakout sessions that cover web development and design, marketing and branding, video production, microcontroller programming, 3d modeling and printing. While building a business around a product or service these space explorers will develop creativity, lateral thinking, and catch the entrepreneurship bug.
